The event organized by Ouest France, among others, is an opportunity to bring together major organizations, skippers but also startups and large groups. Moreover, Mer XXL counts among its main partners, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The CCI of Ille-et-Vilaine, has since November 2018, developed a project: the Breizh Cop.

The goal of this Breizh Cop? To accelerate, among other things, the process of climate and ecological transitions in Brittany and face the climate and environmental emergency. Among its major fields of action: the sea, the fight against global warming as well as waste.

Alarming figures

These events and projects therefore focus on the phenomenon of pollution, due to plastic waste, which is growing exponentially.

Déchets plage

Indeed, a recent report by the World Wildlife Fund estimates that each year, 8 million tons of waste, unused and unused, end up in the oceans. At this rate, plastic waste will outnumber fish within 30 years. But this critical situation can also be observed in the terrestrial environment, where plastic waste is constantly invading us.

On the side of public authorities, the anti-waste bill for a circular economy, presented by Brune Poirson, Secretary of State for Ecological Transition is a new issue. Among the objectives to be achieved: 100% of plastic recycled in 2025. But the road is still long. Indeed, the figures speak for themselves.

According to Citeo,

%

of plastic packaging is recycled in France.

Nearly 50% of waste is recovered and used to produce energy. The rest is landfilled. In addition, the government wants to go even further by introducing a deposit system for the recycling of beverage packaging.

On a larger scale, France is a bad pupil. Indeed, next to its European neighbors, it is in the last rankings in terms of plastic packaging recycling. However, to address these devastating consequences, many projects are being implemented. The Toulouse Cleanup, created in 2016 is an excellent example. This waste vacuuming machine aims to depollute the Garonne River. Indeed, the plastic waste contained in rivers contributes in large part to the pollution of the oceans.

Finally, our Heywaste  solution is also part of a circular economy scheme. By measuring the filling rate of waste containers, it allows a better management of waste flows.
